DO YOU KNOW THAT YOUR LOVE IS THE SWEETEST SIN?
Radio Academy!

I've been procrastinating about this, so here goes...

As you know, I attended Radio Academy last week. I must say that it was a great experience for me, learning about what goes on in radio and picking up presentation skills (and other valuable advices) from Daniel Ong and DJs who popped by the class.

The first 3 days, we pretty much covered what goes on 'behind the scenes', how radio works and vocal ish like voice projection, breathing techniques and such. Then came day 4, when we were gonna do our demos in our respective groups. The days leading up to this, I was really excited to do it. But when it came to the day itself... I started getting all nervous about it. But I kept reminding myself, that once we stepped into the recording studio, I have to keep cool and just remember to have fun (as was reiterated throughout the workshop). My group was the last to record, and having to wait really sucks. It only makes you even more nervous than you already are. Finally, it was our turn! And honestly, as I stepped into the studio, my heart was still racing a little. But I took a breath and told myself, 'Okay, this is it!' and there we go doing our 'show'. We had a playlist of 5 songs (which was the same for every group) and 4 talksets (basically what we say in between songs). Everything was going fine until talkset 3, when we had to redo it because we messed up a little. Alas, we finally completed our recording and because we were the last group the sound engineer let us listen to a little snippet and said we did good.

Anyway, fast forward. We had a tour around the radio/tv stations at MediaCorp, before returning to class and listening to everyone's demos. Our worst fears came true, we had to sit in front of the whole class as our demos were being played. Fast forward again to my group. We had everyone laughing a lot, so that was a good sign. And then, time for the critique... The general comment was that all 3 of us in the group had good voices, and that we sound almost like seasoned DJs (that's great to hear!) On top of that, there was a lady who sat in to listen to our demos, and she sat through all the groups' demos (we were told that for previous batches, she just listened to a few and then left)! Anyway, fast forward again. The programme director of Gold 90 FM, who was giving us critiques, said my group was the best/most entertaining (still very surreal) and we won some goodies from Gold.

And that was the end of a wonderful 5 days where I have indeed learnt a lot.

PS: If you wanna hear my group's demo, leave me a tag or tell me on MSN ;)
